Dear Editor:

At the meeting of the Piscataway Township council on October 17, the council proposed a 2007 budget that will increase municipal taxes by approximately six percent. Based on questions from the public, it became increasingly clear to me that many members of the current Piscataway Council have not studied to understand and become knowledgeable about the details of the proposed budget. In addition, they do not seriously or respectfully understand the impact that these recurring tax increases have on the citizens of Piscataway.

It is curious that the next meeting at which the budget will be approved is just days after the upcoming election. For a more fair and more open process in which the budget will actually undergo some scrutiny, I urge Piscataway voters to be aware of the council’s actions and to cast their ballots wisely for fiscal responsibility in electing a more bipartisan governing body. It is certainly time for a change.
